1,320 antisemitic incidents recorded in France in 2025, according to the Ministry of the Interior
Antisemitic incidents in France remained at a historically high level in 2025, despite a moderate decline compared with the previous year, according to figures published by the Ministry of the Interior on 12 February 2026. The data confirm the entrenchment of anti-Jewish hatred in French society, even as the overall number of anti-religious acts stabilised.
A total of 1,320 antisemitic acts were recorded in 2025, representing a decrease of 16 per cent compared with 2024. While this reduction is notable, the Ministry stressed that the figure remains exceptionally high by historical standards.
Over the past twenty-five years, antisemitic incidents have never reached such levels as those observed during the last three years. The sharp escalation followed the attacks of 7 October 2023, after which antisemitic acts in France quadrupled between 2023 and 2024.
Antisemitic acts accounted for 53 per cent of all anti-religious incidents recorded in France in 2025, even though Jews represent less than 1 per cent of the national population, estimated at between 450,000 and 500,000 people. This disproportion underscores the specific vulnerability of the Jewish community and the persistence of targeted hostility.
As in previous years, individuals were the primary targets of antisemitic acts. Aggressions against persons, including physical assaults, verbal abuse and online hate, represented 67 per cent of all antisemitic incidents. The year was marked by several high-profile attacks, including the assault of Rabbi Arié Engelberg in Orléans in March and attacks against Rabbi Elie Lemmel in June in Deauville and Neuilly-sur-Seine. These incidents illustrate the extent to which antisemitism continues to manifest in direct violence against visible members of the Jewish community.
The Ministry of the Interior noted that the figures were compiled in close cooperation with the Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive (SPCJ) and are based on officially recorded and legally qualified facts, including police complaints, formal reports and judicial referrals. However, the authorities emphasised that these figures likely underestimate the true scale of antisemitism, due in part to persistent under-reporting by victims.
While the overall number of anti-religious acts in France reached 2,489 incidents in 2025, a level similar to that of 2024, trends varied across religious groups. Acts targeting Muslims increased sharply, while those affecting Christians rose more moderately and primarily involved damage to property. Nonetheless, antisemitism remained the dominant component of religiously motivated hatred and the most persistent over time.
The Ministry concluded that the sustained high level of antisemitic incidents reflects a deeply rooted phenomenon rather than a temporary surge. Despite the slight decline observed in 2025, the data point to an enduring climate of hostility towards Jews in France, raising continued concerns for the security of Jewish communities and the effectiveness of long-term prevention and protection measures.
